Piero Cipollone is the World Bank Group Executive Director for Italy, Albania, Greece, Malta, Portugal, San Marino and Timor-Leste (November 2010 to the present). He is also the Chairman of the Bank’s Audit Committee. Prior to joining the Bank, he served as President of the Italian research institute INVALSI (similar to the U.S. Institute of Education Sciences (IES)).
Previously, he headed the Labor Market Unit within the Research Department of the Bank of Italy, in Rome. Mr. Cipollone has also been a visiting scholar in the Department of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. He has published and co-published articles and papers on labor economics in journals such as the American Economic Review and the Journal of the European Economic Association. He holds a B.A. in Economics and Commerce from the University of Rome (La Sapienza), and a Master of Arts in Economics from Stanford University.
